We are always in need of supplies to help care for the animals, and every donation, no matter how small, goes a long way. Who we are
The Galax Carroll Grayson Animal Shelter is a regional shelter operated jointly by the three local governments (Galax City, Carroll County and Grayson County) under the requirements of the Code of the Virginia. The shelter accepts animals as required under the Code and works to place animals back with their owners, adopt them to new owners, or place them with other non-profit animal welfare agencies that are able to find them new homes. Animals are adopted on a first come first served basis, so always contact the Shelter to check that the animal you are interested in is still available. Galax Carroll Grayson Animal Shelter is a small rural facility in the southwest of Virginia. While not yet a no-kill facility, this is a goal we strive to achieve each and every day. We are also fortunate enough to work with some amazing rescue groups and dedicated individuals who help us move animals to safety each and every week. Owner surrendered dogs and dogs that have expired stray hold, are available for adoption/rescue for seven days (from the 'available date' to the 'last guaranteed day'). If they are still at the shelter after the 'last guaranteed day', we will re-evaluate for space in the shelter for incoming stray dogs, individual temperament, Etc. If you are interested in a particular dog please contact us A.S.A.P. even before the available date.

Foster Homes Wanted
We are in need of foster homes for the dogs and cats. Foster homes not only make room for more pets at the shelter they also help us find out more about an animals character which helps to find them new homes. If you are interested in fostering, please fill out our Foster Inquiry Form

Foster Pickup Friday - New Year, New Friend! It is the New Year so why not start it by making a difference? Pick a pet to foster for the weekend and give a shelter dog a much-needed break. Pickup Friday, Return Tuesday - All supplies provided. If you feel you would like to extend the foster beyond the weekend, we are happy to talk with you about that option. Featured Dogs Who Could Really Use a Foster: Jade - An anxious dog who truly needs a break from the shelter. A quiet, loving home, even for a weekend, could help her decompress and feel safe. Volunteers Wanted
Love animals? We need volunteers to help us keep improving! You must be 16 years and older. You can come in anytime Monday-Saturday 9am-4pm. Becky, a shelter volunteer, has made it her passion to care for shelter cats. Here is what she says about volunteering at Galax Carroll Grayson Animal Shelter: "Being a volunteer is wonderful! There are so many different needs in the shelter that each person that volunteers can find a fit for their preferences and the amount of time he/she has to offer. I love interacting with the cats (but I love dogs too) and I am rewarded every time I am there. Kitten/puppy season is coming soon so we need all the help we can get!" Lost your dog?
Stray dogs without identication are kept for 5 days before being put up for adoption. Dogs with identication are kept for 10 days before being put up for adoption. Contact the shelter to check whether your pet is there. Some of the stray dogs are featured on the Galax Carroll Grayson Animal Shelter Facebook Page but not all are put here so contact the shelter if you have lost your dog.
